Her story

The following is an excerpt from Staggs Genealogy – Harold Wareham Staggs – His Book

Warton and Elenora’s first daughter was Grandmother Alice Geraldine Crowe. She married Grandfather William Hawthorn Wareham. William was an electrician for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

I remember both of them with love. Grandmother could cook like mad, and had a full cellar that overflowed with jars of every fruit and vegetable she could “put up”. Sauerkraut. in a big barrel and, during fall and winter, pork sides and hams in other barrels being pickled were there were bins full of apples, potatoes and strings of onions, too. No one could starve in the Wareham house. Grandfather would sit with me in the swing on the front porch telling me stories that I was too young to know were windys. He loved hunting, fishing and chewing tobacco. In the book “Oh Yeah”, Sez Bill, he is the one his son, Bill, calls Dock.

They were fine people and had seven children.

Their oldest child was my mother, Ella Blanch Wareham who married, who else, my father, Richard Staggs.

The following is an excerpt from The John Keen(e) (1578-1649) and Associated Families, by Mr. and Mrs. Archie Timothy Keene, 1971.

Alice Geraldine, daughter of Elnora and Wharton Crowe, born 9-29-1867, Valparaiso; died 2-28-1948; married 7-23-1887, Valparaiso, William Hawthorne Wareham, son of Stephen and Julia Wareham, born 9-6-1856, Mechanicsville, Pa. He died 12-11-1928. They had seven children.
